1. Given the unbalanced equation: Al + O2 = Al2O3 When this equation is completely balanced using the smallest whole numbers, what is the sum of the coefficients?

A)    7

B)    5

C)    9

D)    4

Correct Answer: Option C - 9

4Al + 3O2 = 2Al2O3.
